I've Got Skillz
A reprised quote from DH on Sunday night: I'm not surprised anymore when you hurt yourself. I'm just surprised at the ways you find to hurt yourself.
This after I managed to stab myself in the thumb with the needle from the Menopur injection as I was recapping it before dropping the syringe into the haz-mat tub.
Of course, last night I managed to stab myself with the Follistim needle not once, not twice, but three times as I was attempting to cap it and remove it from the pen.
For those keeping track at home, that's 4 needle stabs in 24 hours. Over the number of injections I have done, I have only had 4 stabs total. (For the record I will no longer be recapping the syringe used for the Menopur injection. And I will be paying more attention to the way I put the cap on the Follistim needle - you need to put the cap back on for easiest removal of the needle.)
Oh yeah, I've got skills.
I've also got a medicine headache bouncing between my face and the base of my skull which refuses to leave even with acetaminophen on board. From experience, it will go away or I'll finally get acclimated to it about the day before I stop the meds. Joy.

Another one of those days.
Monday I went out at lunch to get cat food and litter. We were at critical levels of both, and the cats were about to start a protest. And you know those only ever end in one way - bodily secretions in places that are impossible to get clean.
This trip was deliberate, we have both of the large chain pet stores in our area, so I had cruised the net to see which of the two had the better prices and planned my shopping accordingly. One store is semi on my way home, the other is more out of my way, but still easy to get to and return from with time to spare at lunch.
Of course, since I was at that shopping center I decided to run a couple other errands at some stores in the same area. But you have to remember I wouldn't have been there had I not found the food and litter for a couple dollars cheaper at the one store.
Long lead up for a short event: running into a curb and blowing a tire as I was making my way out of the shopping center after running all of the errands.
I am fairly well acquainted with curbs, there's just something about the location of my front passenger tire that attracts them. But this was the first time I had done more then brush tire against curb in a soft kiss or run up and over the curb like a bulldozer over an ex-boyfriends heart.
Instead of a savings of dollars, we're now out around two hundred for the tire.
We have Roadside Assistance through our car insurance so it didn't cost any extra to have someone come out to change the tire. And my vehicle carries a full-size spare, so we have some time to find the lowest price on the tire.
But it still stinks.
Of course, I was flipping through the Vehicle Manual last night and came across the airbag section where there was a line about the airbags possibly deploying with as little impact as hitting a curb. So at least I missed out on that fun and expense.

The Sudden Realization That Really Isn't Sudden At All
On the great to-do list of life, housework never gets a permanent black marker stroke through it.

Maybe I'm Still A Blond After All...
Looking in the mirror this weekend I came to the disheartening realization that my hair, which used to be more blond than brown has reversed and is now more brown than blond.
It's not unexpected, the same thing happened to my Dad around the same age. And before going gray (and now blond, thanks to her hairdresser) my mother was a fairly dark brunette. Of course, my father also started to lose his hair at the same time the color changed, but as far as I can tell, I still have all my hair, and the brown hairs are thicker than the blond, so my hair isn't so fly-away as it was.
I've always identified as a blond, so this realization wasn't met with joy. On the bright side, at least my brows (which have always been darker than my hair) are now a better match, and I still have my natural high-lights.
But, what gives me hope that I'm still a blond (at heart at least) is that as we spent the weekend at our Wintergreen condo, I neglected to transfer my cell phone from my ski jacket back to my purse after dinner Saturday night. We won't be back up for 2 whole weeks and I'm not spoiled enough to ask my parents to drive up and get it to send to me, so that means I'm not going to be connected unless some other option is exercised.
The options I've come up with are: (1) Have DH take the call forward off the phone he got only a few months before he was given a Blackberry for work, use his number, and either take messages or give his new number to anyone who calls him. This could also involve forwarding my number to his phone for the duration. (2) Take one of our old phones into the wireless store, have it activated under my number until I get my phone back, and then switch back. Not sure if there is a cost associated with this on top of the time it would take out of my life to stand in line and have the associate do their thing. Twice. (3) Live without a cell phone for the first time in over a decade(!), and try to remember to check messages on a regular basis.
Getting a new phone is not an option. It took me months as my old phone was slowly dying to pick out this phone, and I'm not eager to repeat the process anytime soon. I think I'm going to lobby for option (1) as it is the easiest and most certainly lowest cost of the first two options. I'm not sure I can live with option (3). Would you want to?

Baby it's Cold Outside
I know this because once the temperature drops to a certain point the lift gate on my vehicle doesn't spring to it's full height without assistance. I don't think the shocks approve of the change in temps and it's their little protest.
However, I forgot about this little fact until last night when I went to load groceries in the semi-dark parking lot and cracked my forehead into the corner of the metal box surrounding the latch.
Ow.
Of course its on the side where I part my hair, so even with concealer, there's no hiding the fact that I've got a nice goose egg on my forehead.
I suppose I could walk around like Cousin Itt. Which may not be a bad idea as I could also be asleep under there and no one would notice! (I had no idea that his name was spelled with two t's. The things you learn thanks to teh internets!)

Single Life
Don't tell the rapists and burglars, but DH is away for work for most of this week.
I've got a list of about 15 things I'd like to have done around the house before he returns. That's 3 nights left to complete most of them. This is my list, not his. Only a complete bastard of a husband would leave a list of tasks to be completed in his absence.
Most of them are the usual suspects that never stop: laundry, changing sheets, bathroom cleaning, scrubbing down the kitchen, vacuuming, wet-mopping the wood floors, dusting, and so on.
Outside the usual: painting the guest bath. Hmmmm. That could take 3 days and nights by itself.
But what do you think is the one I really want to complete?
Also on the list: catching up to DH on Hellgate. This is his 2nd play through, my 1st to this point (I got frustrated with other characters), and I was ahead of DH, but no longer. He passed me a couple weeks back. But then, he's played more than I in the past month or so. Too bad I can't multi-task on most of the items.
There's just not enough time or energy to get everything done. But I'm going to give it a shot.

(Maybe Not So) Helpful Hints...
Reading today's paper there was a hint in the "Héloise" Column that caught my funny bone.
The suggestion was that after visiting the dentist, you put the goodie bag with the toothbrush, floss, and paste samples in your suitcase so that you never arrive at a location without these vital items.
It's not a bad suggestion, but my response was that I guess it didn't matter if you forgot something else I would consider equally as vital - say, underwear - because you would have a nice new toothbrush!
Seriously, how many people do you know that travel (on any sort of basis) who don't carry a full inventory of their grooming necessities?
Furthermore, it's a lot easier to ask the front desk of a hotel or even a friend or relative for a toothbrush and/or paste, than it is to ask for a spare pair of underwear.
Am I wrong on this?

What a cut-up!
Did you know that you could get a cut from aluminum foil just as easily as a paper-cut?
Apparently you can.

Monthly Ironies
**Warning - Female Issues Ahead**
To recap: Per Dr. S. I was doing a trial non-Clomid cycle to see if my body had gotten itself sorted out.
As of Saturday I was on CD 33. So I thought I should try a pregnancy test Sunday morning. I had no PMS symptoms, no indication that I was doing anything but marking time. But, I was curious to see if we happened to have gotten lucky on this trial cycle without Clomid. It had been 33 days already, well past the "5 day sooner" window. What did I have to lose?
I did what you need to do, and went to clean up with the tp. What I saw then told me I should have saved the test. I threw it away without waiting for the results to show.
It was only later that I realized that in my state of drowsiness I had grabbed the last ovulation predictor and not a pregnancy test after all.*
Right now it looks like I'll be doing an HSG one day next week** - and unless I hear otherwise I'll be skipping the Clomid this cycle too. I guess that's a step forward if I don't have to be dependent on chemicals to make my body do what it should? Not that doing what it should is any guarantee of success. Sigh.
*I blame being drowsy, but I probably would have done the same thing wide awake. It was in a mostly pink box with a wrapped pee stick in it. I knew I had an open multi-count box of pregnancy tests, so without looking closely, it was easy to mistake one for the other.
**With the assistance of Prince Valium (anyone? anyone? Name the movie - without Googling it, I dare ya!) and a prescription pain med, of course. With that combination I'm hoping that my pain/fear reaction is dulled enough to prevent them combining to invite "Panic Attack" to the party. That guy isn't a whole lot of fun.

Look, Ma, No Cavities...
Guess who stopped flossing on a regular basis after not getting any positive feedback at the last visit for faithfully flossing for the six months between visits?
Guess who is now regretting that decision after her gums were hacked by the hygienist?
Ouch.
Today's lesson boys and girls: It really is important to floss!
(and use the ACT enamel building rinse and Listerine...sigh)
Note to anyone who works for a Dentist, is a Dentist, or knows someone to whom the prior categories apply - when someone has been doing something right, don't take it for granted, give that person some positive feedback, otherwise they might assume it isn't that important. Ahem.

And it's Showtime!
Recently others have mentioned that they watch Dexter, but hate to admit it.
I've thought that was because Dexter is a cartoon.
"What's the big deal with admitting you watch a cartoon?" I wondered.
As I flipped through the TV Guide this morning I realized I was mistaken in my assumption.
Oops.
(in my defense, we get HBO and Stars, but not Showtime)
