17 Week Update

I totally jinxed myself last week. Yesterday was, difficult, shall we say. And this morning wasn't much better. But I'm going to blame it on daylight savings time messing with my internal clock because the prior few days were excellent!

Today's appointment went well, and the little one was quite active during the doppler which is absolutely reassuring. Turns out that my thyroid came back a little low when they ran the blood work at the first appointment so the doc wants to rerun that and do the spina bifida testing at the same time. Our local hospital does not have that kind of surgeon on site, so a positive result means we would have to go to another hospital and have a c-section, both of which are always important to know in advance. The next appointment on April 2nd so we should have the results back, and this appointment also includes an u/s so hopefully we will get a good clear look-see at whether this kiddo is a he or a she.

No real changes in foods, but lemon yogurt is a yummy treat, though harder to find than I would like. I'm still eating what ever I want - but not much of it. It made our trip to Snowshoe last week interesting (and cheaper) - one waiter even did a double take when I asked for milk with dinner, I'm not sure why, it was on the menu, but it threw him enough he didn't think to charge us for it. Knowing there was no way I could even come close to finishing an entree, I ate lots of sides and side salads. My favorite - a serving of loaded mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes smothered with bacon, chives, and lots of cheese. Yum.

Even so, according to the doc's office I've lost 4 pounds. Ooops. I'm trying, really I am. It's IVF weight anyway, so it don't really count, right? And that would be why my pre-pregnancy jeans are now loose in the hips and my maternity jeans won't stay up. Or at least one reason. Gah! Apparently women smaller than a size 4 don't get pregnant? (yeah, I know, throw tomatoes all you want.)

  1. I don't know if you will find this helpful or not but my appetite finally made an appearance a few days ago. After I spent the day of 17w6d with my head in the toilet. The next day I was magically fine. Like poof! Eating was fun again!
.... now I'm craving Lemon stuff ... and really wanting Lemon soft serve! Do they make that? LOL!

  2. The Tastee-Freeze in Churchville, VA offers 24+ flavors of soft-serve, I'm sure lemon is one of them. Of course, Churchville is on the far side of Staunton, so it's not really convenient.

The closest one to you is probably the one in Madison, on 29 south of Culpeper, or Gordonsville. Maybe worth a scenic drive one day?

It didn't help me when the doc said, you should have been done with the nausea for a few weeks now. Super/tell my body that!

  3. I can't tell you how happy I was to click on your blog and find this post. You are pregnant! Congratulations! I am so, so happy for you. I know you have been wanting this for so long. Here's to regaining your appetite soon!

(And I apologize for being so out of the loop.)

  4. 17 weeks! It seems to be flying for us both don't you think?
As for size vs conception abilities, apparently being a size 18 (US 16) means I shouldn't get pregnant either. Egg on their faces I say!

The mash potato combi sounds yum!

  5. I hope your tests all come back with good results! Do you have any idea at this point what flavor of baby you've got in there? Any weird dreams? Indicative cravings? Old wive's tale indicators?

  6. I have the same problem with jeans. But I hope that the belly will help me soon with that.
Nevertheless, losing weight at 17w is not good, missy. Here's a tomato for you to eat. ;-)
