Talked to my RE the end of last week just to clarify more in my mind what's happening next. Sure, IVF. But what does that really mean? What is the protocol, what should I be looking towards and anticipating?
For now, the plan is: get blood work on CD3 (presumably mid-to-late next week unless we got lucky with this month's "old-fashioned" way, or my body decides to screw with me), and set up an appointment for DH and I the following week to discuss the results and the IVF contract with the RE.
When I go in for the blood work, I'll get an Rx for one month of birth control pills to start that day. Apparently they will "rest" my system and give a clean start to the next cycle.
Unless the results are worse than before (keeping my fingers crossed that the spike was a result of almost a full year straight of medicated cycles), we will probably do a shared-risk program with the RE - total of 3 chances, and partial money back if none of them work.
I'm not really looking forward to jumping back into the ocean on this - it's been really nice to have an alcoholic drink or two, not worry about taking any medication, and not spend an obscene amount of time and money at the doctor's office - but hopefully the end result will be worth it.

I'm still totally rooting for you two to have success the old-fashioned way. If you do have to do the IVF thing, it sounds like at least you have a doctor who knows what's it's all about.
ReplyDeleteIf the end result is a wriggling, noisy little baby I'd say it's worth it :)
Sounds like a long road ahead, but definitely worth it. Good luck and I'll be thinking of you as things get started.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Just bulldoze through - IVF sucks. But you will get through it, and hopefully you'll be avoiding the alcohol for a way better reason. :)
