IVF#2 - Operation Transfer A Success!

This morning, of our five little embies, three had progressed to a grade 3, and the other two were plugging along. Given that the guidelines recommend transferring a max of 2 based on my age and the embryo grade, DH and I were glad to not have to make a decision. Especially since the thought of triplets is a bit (okay, much more than a bit) disturbing.

The full bladder thing went well - I came in with a full bladder which only got fuller as I waited, leading to not only a quick trip with my bottom half wrapped in the drape sheet for a partial empty in the "boys" bathroom (complete with some attractive pictures of scantily clad women), but an immediately post-transfer experience with a bed pan. Dignity, it had left the building.

One thing I wished I'd known in advance is that the room would have not only my RE, a nurse, and DH, but also the embryologist (?) and a second nurse. I was expecting it to be more like an IUI with just the RE and a nurse. I guess if this works, by the time I deliver I'll be used to multiple strange people seeing my parts, but it was a tad surprising. Thank goodness for Valium dulling my nerves!

So now, we wait. Today, Monday, and Tuesday are low activity. Then I'll ease back into the usual level. Beta on the 30th. Let the thumb-twiddling commence.

  1. Oh my gosh, believe me, sweetie, you have ALL of us thumb twiddling right along with you!

Here's wishing you the very best of luck. I hope at least one of those little embies finds a lovely home in your uterus and sets up camp there for the next nine months!

  2. So exciting. I am very glad to hear that things went well and that your embies were so strong. Very exciting :) Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers - especially praying that the next few weeks FLY by until the 30th! It's only 10 days - you can make it!

  6. Oh yes infertility procedured makes you loose any dignity you had left. During my first transfer with 7 people in the room, the RE moved the big theatre light so that he could get a better look at my woman bit. I then got to see my woman bits displayed in all their glory in the steel/silver section in the middle of the light, so humiliating.

    Wishing you all the best!
