12.5.14
Sounds good to me unless something happens between now and then.
3cm dilated, blood pressure is fine, no protein in the pee.
Just done. D-O-N-E done.
Of course there's a list of things to do between now and 6:30 Friday morning, but whatever doesn't happen, doesn't happen.

38+ Down & Thanksgiving Report
Saw a different OB this past week as my regular OB had the nerve* to take the week off for Thanksgiving. (*Just kidding, she deserved the vacation and I don't begrudge her doing so.) OB #2 was actually the one I had seen in August 2013 who had the not so nice job of telling me that surprise pregnancy hadn't stuck around, so it was nice to see him under more positive circumstances.
Per his measurements I was closer to 70% effaced and 1-2cm dilated. Eh, these things can go back and forth, but it did remind me a bit of when I was in labor with LO and the resident/intern said I was at 10cm, they hauled me to the OR for delivery (all other delivery rooms were occupied), an OB checked me there and determined it was something like 4 or 6cm and back I went to the triage room.
In related news, LT is still firmly head down. Her newest trick is bouncing or pressing on my bladder when I'm sitting upright; Thanksgiving dinner was quite painful thanks to this!
We were supposed to have my parents, and DH's parents, and his brother for Thanksgiving dinner but only the IL's ended up coming since my parents both came down with an awful cold the beginning of the week and kindly didn't want to share their germs or travel while feeling especially crummy. BIL is in a down turn at the moment so he didn't feel like coming, I've come to accept that it's best to plan for him to attend and hope that he will but expect that he won't and be pleasantly surprised if he does. It's complicated.
Dinner itself was good, but the low point came afterwards when I fussed at MIL for putting dirty dishes in the clean dishwasher while just letting the water run in the sink (I'd asked DH to empty but he hadn't gotten to it) and her getting upset to the point of tears. But who just starts putting dishes in a dishwasher without asking if it was clean or dirty? Sure the bottom rack was 2/3 empty but the top was completely full! She called the next day to tell me I need to think about how I communicate with people, that I'm too harsh (and I thought I was holding back in my reaction to not only the dishes but the water running - I've told her multiple times we don't need to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, that my dishwasher is better than her crappy model). Even DH was WTH about that!
LO also has a cold which she generously shared with me - though she seems to have gotten the worse part of it with several nights of coughing herself (and us) awake thanks to gunk, and a low-grade fever the past couple days. I just have sinus pressure and drainage which isn't too bad when I keep up with the Tylenol.
In sum, I'm tired and can't get comfortable and LO is watching way too much TV and spending way too much time on computers and tablet because I don't have the energy or stamina to occupy her otherwise.
Please send come out soon vibes to LT. Not sure how much longer any of us can deal!

3 or Less (Fewer?)
No idea about effacement, but right around 3cm dilated.
OB is thrilled to have reached this point. Me, not so much. I can't find a comfortable position - sitting upright, laying on my left side, laying on my back. The belly is up in my ribs all the time.
She did, out of the blue, say I could schedule an induction starting at 39 weeks, but I'm not sure how I feel about that. Epidural and pictocin when already in labor are one thing, introducing them when there is no reason to, quite another. At least in my mind.
As much as I'm ready to not be pregnant, I'm also not ready for everything to change for our family. Because I know things are going to change, and while I can perhaps throw an educated guess at it, I just don't know how, and how all of us are going to react to the changes.
LO is really good at being 4 - both the hard parts and the good parts. I realized the other afternoon, and I don't know why it hit me so hard at that time, that as big as she is, she's still just a little girl. So while she's able now to let the dog in and out (and get cutely huffy about it), go potty on her own (still working on the wiping/washing/flushing bit), and mostly entertain herself without my having to supervise, she is also throwing magnificent tantrums about random things, getting pickier about food, and not using her ears as effectively as she could be.
And I do mean big size wise, at 4 and a few months she's wearing kids 6 and 6x. The sleeves and legs are a trifle long, but the waist and shoulders fit her just right. I'm actually a little concerned as the waists and rears in the size 6 winter pants are already getting a bit snug. (Side rant here about how at many stores moving into size 4 and up girls clothes mean that everything thing in that range is designed for the pre-teen set. Never mind that a 10yo should not be dressing like a 15yo and how that trickles down to the smaller end of sizes as well...it's infuriating and convinces me that the people designing and making the decisions about fashion do not have kids /end rant)
DH is working crazy hours thanks to a number of factors outside his control. He is hiring, but that process adds to his work, along with the integration of the new people into the system. My guess is that while he'll theoretically take off work once LT arrives, he'll still end up doing a number of hours each day just to keep things from boiling over. Grrr.
Oh, here's where I tease you...I think we've finally agreed on a first/middle name combination for LT. Strangely the first name starts with the same initial as LO. Trying to avoid it, but that's the name we both liked. Middle is different, but the final kicker is the last letter for LO's first/middle names are reversed for LT. The middle name, like LOs, was a maiden name for a now deceased grandmother, LO's on my side, LT's on DH's side.
And now everyone home is demanding to eat dinner. What is up with that?! Off I go to oblige them.

4...
Still ~50% effacement.
About 2cm dilated.
Big, heavy, hurting.
Tired too.
Last progesterone was last night so hopefully things do start to move faster.
Saw some colostrum Tuesday night so that's a good sign, right?
My belly is not smooth and round but lumpy and lobal.
One good thing, I noticed recently that the keratosis pilaris on my upper arms has disappeared. It's so strange for my arms to be smooth and not bumpy! Will be interesting to see if it/when it returns after LT arrives.

5, Count 'Em 5
Another week, another weekly check.
50% effacement
.5-1cm dilated
OB doesn't think things are going to go anywhere in the next week or two. But she's on vacation the week of Thanksgiving, so I'm hoping to deliver before then (or after, but would really prefer before!).
1 more week of progesterone and then I am done, forever and ever, AMEN. Hooray!
I'm starting to waddle. Walking is getting very tiring - ran errands with brief stops at 4 stores after the OB appt. yesterday before picking LO up from preschool and my legs still hurt. Aside from this morning, LO has been waking up before 6AM since the time change which means we all must be awake to entertain her royal pain-in-the-ass-ness. This has reminded me and DH that I don't do well with extended periods of time waking before 6...a not so helpful reminder before we restart sleep deprivation with a newborn!
My pants are either too small in the waist (under belly band) so they start pinching by the end of the day, or too big (over belly "secret" panel) so I spend all day hiking them up. The shirts which worked throughout pregnancy with LO have been overwhelmed by the belly and allow a "smile" of belly to peep out beneath and none of my bras are comfortable, not even the nursing bras which were too big all over when LO stopped.
Did I mention I'm cranky? Oh, you guessed? Huh.
I think we have a strong contenders for first and middle names, finally. I heard my favorite of the narrowed down first names at an OB appointment and decided I didn't like it after all so had to go back and revisit the list. DH hasn't given it a final seal of approval, but did say it had possibility which he hasn't for any other combinations I've proposed.
LO is running around without pants and the TV had been on since 7am-ish until the past 40 minutes, & I just sent her to her room for demanding candy (she chose to have her daily piece immediately after breakfast this morning). Not one of my best parenting days...

Another 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1? Week(s) To Go
This weeks OB visit went well.
I'll let you in on a little secret though...strep swabbing hurts! The OB also did an internal exam - everything was still shut nice and tight, though she did say she thought there was about 30% effacement.
LO came down with a cold the beginning of the week, and ever so thoughtfully shared the germs with me so I've spent today mostly horizontal on the couch hydrating and blowing my nose. I'm hoping to get the infant bucket seat unpacked this weekend, and do some name finalization with DH. For some reason it hasn't seemed quite so urgent this time round, but it is getting down to the wire!
LT has not yet discovered the trick of getting her feet under my ribs, for which I am extremely grateful. She does like to hang out with her back on the left side though, so I feel pretty constantly lopsided.
DH took LO trick-or-treating - a plan already in place before the germs attacked as I didn't feel like I would be up to so much walking. They weren't out long, despite a potty stop immediately before getting costumed, LO had an urgent need to go. It seemed like she had just as much fun after their return in helping to hand out candy to the those who came to our door - actually the most who came since we moved in two years ago.
Hope your Halloween and weekend were/are all you hoped for!

33w 4d (Hooray!)
It was about this day in the last pregnancy (and time! as I type this) that LO made her early arrival.
Not sure that I can fully express how relieved I am at crossing this milestone. I'm actually surprised at the relief I'm feeling, I didn't think I was consciously worried about it. But perhaps with DH being away this week it was more intensified than I realized.
Wednesday's OB appointment thankfully brought no surprises, but I will start weekly appointments given my history. Next appointment the OB is planning to do the strep swab so that will be fun.
Washed the first load of new sleepers today - I had to get some new things, how could I not? I also washed the package of hand mitts I picked up. With the way LT (Little Two) has had her hands at her face in every one of the last ultrasounds I figured it was probably prudent, and a cheap insurance policy if they aren't actually necessary.
DH managed to swap the furniture between the guest rooms, with little help from me, last weekend. He also put the crib up, so apart from figuring out a changing table and deciding what to do about a glider/ottoman, we're in pretty good shape. I finally got the hospital bag mostly packed (3 weeks after finalizing the list, but still) except for a few last minute items and the aforementioned hand mitts & an outfit or two to pick from for going home. The car seat is still in the box in the garage. Easy enough to unpack/install when the moment comes.
I'm sleeping poorly. Thank you squashed bladder and post-pee insomnia, & LO who has decided that waking before the sun appears is fun. Weight gain is something like 15-17 pounds depending on which pre-pregnancy weight I go by. If I'm going to get anything done it's in the morning. Afternoons are couch time. LO is watching way more television than I would like, but I don't have the energy to occupy her with better (less mind-numbing) options.
Trying to enjoy the last few weeks of LO being an only child. Not doing anything special but especially trying to not resent the energy she needs that I don't currently have to give. It's been extra nice finally having the playset up so she can be active and I can sit and watch from the comfort of a deck chair.
Anyway, that's what's going on here. Still taking guesses on arrival!

31 Weeks or Such (depending on who's counting)
Good news from this weeks OB appointment and ultrasound!
Plan for the weekend now is to put the majority of stuff together for the hospital bag as I did not have that done in time for LO's birth. I do not want that to happen again! I have already declared next weekend to be the designated time for the room to be organized - but frankly I'm not as invested in that as I am the hospital bag. We all know babies don't really need their own room immediately from the start. The plan for the room is to switch furniture between the two current guest rooms - the room we're going to use as the new nursery has a queen and the other room has a double - switching them will allow more room for the crib & ME a decent sized bed to sleep in since we're not ready to move LO into a larger bed since it's not been that long since she moved into the twin. I also have no big decorating plans - I like the bedding that's currently on the double, and it will work for a girl's room so apart from hopefully finding some wall decals or art, I consider things good. [I have a feeling that this won't be the last thing that's good enough instead of being special, thus is the plight of the 2nd child of the same gender!]
The biggest thing right now is the uncertainty of when this kiddo will make her appearance. I'm not supposed to stop the progesterone until I'm 36 weeks, but the OB said it just keeps things closed up, it won't stop contractions if they start. I guess I'm looking for the happy medium between needing the NICU and going full term. I'd like to make it past Halloween, & the next full moon is 11/5...which would put me at 35 weeks. Of course, DH is scheduled to be across the country when I'm 33 weeks, so that week would be problematic! My mom is already planning to come for part of that week so I shouldn't be completely alone if this babe follows the same schedule as LO. I do know that I do not want to go full term - I think that would drive me over the edge.
That said, anyone want to make a guess as to date/time/weight/length? Getting any of the above would be rewarded with bragging rights only! :)
- The previa is G-O-N-E gone! That's a huge weight off my mind, I was having much trouble wrapping my head around the idea of a c-section. It also means the end of pelvic rest, albeit with the condition of condom usage to prevent any semen related start to labor.
- Fluid levels are still in the acceptable range.
- Baby is still head down, even stubbornly so when the ultrasound tech tried to push on her head to get a better view of the cervix area.
- The first two items mean that the next appointment in 2 weeks does not include an ultrasound. Yay! But also boo because it's been very nice seeing the growth on a regular basis.
- There was no mention of the results from the glucose test so I am assuming all is well there.

29? Weeks (Who the heck knows!?)
Today's 7:30AM ultrasound (that's what I get for having to make appointments only 2 weeks in advance) showed only good things! Hurrah!
Going back again in two more weeks for yet another check. I'm hoping at that appointment that the pelvic rest orders will be lifted.
Overall I feel okay. Too much salt and my left foot & ankle start to swell, sitting down and getting back up can be uncomfortable in the nether regions, not to mention that baby finds it amusing to kick me hard enough with her pointy little heels to make me gasp, and I swear I'm bigger already than I ever got with LO.
Which reminds me, I pulled out a light jacket I'd gotten when pregnant with LO (french terry) and it's tight across my belly. How am I going to stay comfortable in the cooler weather of fall if nothing fits across there?!
- Fluid levels are within normal range
- Placenta is 2mm (2!) from being completely outside the 2 centimeter area of concern around the cervix
- Baby is growing appropriately (and as of this morning had tucked herself snugly head down)

Misc. Stuff
Random Bullet Points - FTW!
- 26 Weeks on Tuesday (or something like that). I had to find the calendar I was using to count the weeks - I'd lost track. Guess that's one of those first/second pregnancy differences.
- DH and I staycationed last week while LO vacationed at my parents house. It would have been a lot more relaxing all round if DH hadn't had to do a few hours of work EVERY FREAKING DAY! Sorry for the shout there - what he was doing had to be done but it's the company's fault for dragging their heels on approving more hires so that there was no one else to do it.
- Took LO for ice cream post-dinner today, seemed like a good way to end the "summer." At least until she went into full not-listening meltdown mode after we returned home. To be fair she'd spent an hour or so swimming with DH mid-afternoon so was tired from that (and her 6:30AM wakeup, ack!) but it pissed DH off that we'd done this nice thing and she "repaid" us with crap behavior (even if it wasn't related at all). I was hoping to get pictures but the ice cream was soft and the temperature too warm to do much except lick and pray.
- The blackout shades mentioned 2 posts ago came in and are everything I hoped they would be. Completely recommend the product & company!
- Went through the first saved tub of baby clothes and despite the ~6 month difference in arrivals it doesn't look like there's much to replace there. Maybe add a couple more swaddles and sleep sacks (but those might be in the 2nd tub. I wasn't the most organized about keeping like sizes together! Oops.) but there are plenty of long sleeve footy sleepers so I think we'll be good.
- Since there really aren't any other big equipment purchases, I'm contemplating getting a better stroller to supplement the umbrella stroller & crappy old Peg Perego. I'm hearing lots of good things about the Bob, especially since when we'd want to use it would be outside and not limited to sidewalks or other hard surfaces, but not sure I can justify the $$$. Maybe there will be one on Craigslist locally? Or would we be just as happy with a lower-cost version for the amount of use I project...such a quandary!
- And related, we still use LO's glider every night for bedtime stories. I know things are going to change but do we get a 2nd glider for the new baby or move the one we have over to the other room? I really like the motion and it still seems to help settle LO out of the day. We have a wooden rocker in the other room right now but unless I stuff it with cushions, and even then, it's not going to be as comfortable. I just don't know!
- In better news, DH and I have started talking names and have a few we agree are possibilities. So that's fun. :) & No, I'm not sharing. ;)
- I'm going to go fill my water glass, again. Glug chug blugh.

What happens when you drink like a fish...
...water that is...
Your amniotic fluid levels go up to the level where the OB feels comfortable not sending you to the perinatologist for further testing.
YAY!!!
Going back in another 2 weeks for another ultrasound check. And those checks will probably continue for the rest of the pregnancy unless things completely stabilize.
In the meantime, I'll keep chugging fluids like there's no tomorrow.
If you need me I'll be over here quietly sloshing, or in the bathroom.

Anatomy Ultrasound, Take 2
To answer the burning question...
GIRL
Also heart looks good, partial previa has moved slightly away but is still within the no fly zone.
Frustratingly, the OB is now concerned about the amniotic fluid level being low so I am scheduled to go back on Thursday for another ultrasound (at a different location as all appointments were booked at my normal office), and will see the OB again on Friday morning to discuss the results. In the meantime, I am to drink an additional 1.5 LITERS of water/gatorade/fluids daily, and spend at least 90 minutes after dinner hanging out on my left side (the latter I've already been doing - I have resumed pre-bedtime naps in front of the tv on the couch while in that position as well as sleeping predominantly on that side).
So that's the news of the day.

Breech Baby, Breech Baby Give Me a Hand
We went in yesterday for the big anatomy scan. As you might have guessed from the title baby was hanging out in the breech position. Head up towards my ribs, legs tucked against the stomach, and there was no moving him/her from that apparently oh so comfy position.
Stubborn. Like his/her sister is now at age 4, not the same sister who was much more cooperative for the same scan.
Ultrasound tech expressed that she was fairly certain the baby is a girl, but without getting a full frontal view to check for any dangly bits (my wording, not hers) she wouldn't/couldn't say for 100% sure. Luckily, -ish I'll take what I can get, the tech was also unable to get all the measurements and pictures she needed thanks to baby's positioning so back we'll go in two weeks for another try.
I plan to give the little bugger a stern talking to about being more cooperative in the future.
We also got the news that my placenta is a couple of millimeters within the no-fly zone around the cervix so we're on (hopefully temporary) pelvic rest until a recheck of position at the next appointment. I need to do some research on this...{scurries away to do so}...okay, so it looks like what might be going on is a marginal previa so the OB is hoping that it will move up and away over time and not be an issue going forward. If it doesn't then it looks like a c-section is standard practice. Not feeling great about that!
Overall though, I am feeling much better over all. Less cramping/pain in my lady-bits after being on my feet for a while, though my feet are now starting to hurt some. More energy - or at least it feels like I would have some if LO would go back to sleeping or being quiet until 7 as she had been before we shook things up by staying at the in-laws for a week while some of our wood floors were torn out, new ones installed and finished.
In other news, this week began what is hopefully the conclusion of our never-ending remodeling project: the tear out and retiling of our shower. Hadn't planned to redo the whole thing but one thing led to another and before we knew it, our only option was to keep moving forward. And keep spending money. Our remodeling contractor is as ready to be done with us as we are to be done with them!
LO is pretty much fulfilling every stereotype of the fucking fours. And I can't drink. This timing sucks!
Stay tuned for hopefully more conclusive news in the next couple of weeks...

Another Month, Another OB Visit (June)
The fetal monitor proved the little heart is still wooshing away, which I was fairly certain of thanks to still experiencing the occasional need to rush to an appropriate receptacle for the emptying of my stomach contents {edited in July: this is pretty much over, hurrah!}, and s/he will soon be receiving extra progesterone nightly in the hopes that his/her arrival is more delayed than LO's. {July note: I finally got to the pharmacy to pick it up and they had no record of it being called in, so need to make that phone call tomorrow.}
New and different this time? Uncomfortable cramping 'down there' when I've spent too much time on my feet. OB did a cervical check and all is well there, so she agreed that the smart thing is to get off my feet and rest when that starts up as I've already been trying to do.
I'm also starting to feel the occasional punch and kick which is always fun (at least until they become vicious). {July note: punching and kicking is apparently not as much fun as seeing how far one can stretch out in a confined space.}
Oh, and in case you were wondering how the bloodwork came back from the last visit? I don't remember the exact ratios but they were better per bloodwork than per age, so that was positive! I had more blood taken today (June) for the 2nd part of the testing (I didn't ask questions). The first attempt ended poorly - the tech was trying to dig for the vein, but thankfully quickly gave up the search. The second attempt went much better, unfortunately it was mostly thanks to the smaller needle of the second butterfly device. The tech said she was sent the wrong ones, and the lab didn't like them. Frankly I didn't understand why it makes a difference since all they should be seeing is the tube with the blood, but what do I know? [Okay, per wikipedia the smaller needles can cause problems with the red blood cells, so the issue is the quality of the sample which stinks because the smaller needles are much less likely to be painful. Moving on.]
In other life news, the remodeling project of doom appears to be dragging ever more slowly than before. We finally got the counters installed in the laundry room only to realize that the sink was the wrong brand, which might have been liveable had the faucet hole not been placed incorrectly. So that all had to be redone. Also needing to be redone? Our shower. As in a full tear out of the old tile and maybe the underlayment below because the attempted regrout left more of a problem than we had started with. So frustrating! That's not going to happen until the end of July.{July note: counters and sink have now been replaced and the laundry room is complete excluding the final electrical stuff. Wood for the re-do of 1/2 our downstairs wood floors is to be delivered tomorrow with demo & install to begin the following week. DH and I still need to go select the new tile for the shower. Woo.}

And there's only another 30 weeks to go!
So - things seem to be chugging along.
Increased stomach issues at 9 weeks+: check
Exhaustion exacerbated by LO waking before 6AM daily: check
Aversions to foods which might actually help relieve stomach issues: check
Informing the grandparents on Mother's Day to shocked but pleased reactions: check
Ditto for LO: check
LO informing her preschool class the following day that her Mommy has a baby in her tummy: check
This is by far my least favorite part of pregnancy. All those hormones slooshing around spiking and dipping and generally not letting the rest of the body adjust before changing once again.
I'm also grumpy because the remodeling & updating project we started the Monday after our return from vacation which was projected to take at most three weeks now looks to be dragging out for at least two more weeks, if not three. I wish I could say I was surprised, but given the way the start date got pushed out a couple of months from the estimate given when we signed the contract, I'm just resigned. Grumpy too as in the immediate time frame our shower, which we are having regrouted, has taken the tile guys way way way longer than the 2-3 days they estimated. And they damaged our shower controls while using an acid product (they are going to replace them, but still it's just one more thing). The long delay in getting started made me question the company, all the rest has cemented my unhappiness with them. Plus I'd like to be able to leave the house again for more than the time it takes to do a preschool run with a quick stop for groceries!

Sounds Like a Washing Machine In There
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh - at something like 171 beats per minute.
Which is to say that today's appointment went very well.
Only one in there (phew!) measuring in at 8wk 1day, so only a couple days off from my count of the weeks starting on Tuesdays. Everything else looks good too (yolk sac, lining, cervix length, etc. etc.).
Doc's going to start me on prometrium inserts starting week 16 or 17 (whoopie...but better than injections!) to help stave off another premature arrival. My internal dialogue when she said this: I don't know if I can handle going full term!
Next visit, at the end of the month, brings another ultrasound with the nuchal fold measurement & blood panel which goes along with it.
Something different with this ob/gyn group from the one I went to before we moved is that I'll see the same doctor for every visit instead of going round-robin to meet them all. I like this change! As I learned with LO's arrival, even if you meet all the doctors in a group, you can end up not delivering with any of them!
Over the past week I was starting to feel smug about my lack of vomiting. Of course that meant that last night I was struck by an unavoidable urge to do so. Morning sickness, hah!
So for now, I'm trying to relax and enjoy and let the future take care of itself. Bad things can happen whether I worry about them or not, so why give the power to the fear?

Life Is...
...The need for daily naps and eating like an infant; you know, just a little bit every 1.5-2 hours so I don't slide into the spiral of morning (hah!) sickness.
...LO being entertained by the television while I attempt to conserve energy. And whining. And demanding food of her own on the off 1.5-2 hours when I'm not nibbling myself. And, being just charming enough for me to not kick her outside into the rain.
...The remodeling work we wanted to start in early 2013 finally starting with just enough notice to clean out the room we are re-doing, but not being told that the electricians were actually going to start first so there have been many calls to DH asking questions about things we could have settled over the weekend had we known they were coming to do all their work.

Vay-cay-shun!
Oh, there's nothing like being on vacation and having to refuse "free" alcohol at least once a day. Especially when you're not ready to break out the 'I'm pregnant!' excuse. And finding your range of acceptable foods shrink from moderately wide to embarrassingly small with a tiny overlap with the available foods mid-week, and after making restaurant reservations.
But, despite that we did have a wonderful time on vacation - got 8 mostly-uninterrupted hours of sleep or so a night, did little to nothing besides lounging pool-side and eating every day and came back more exhausted than when we left. What's up with that?!
Also, no things I had feared might happen happened, apart from the food issues mentioned above which thankfully didn't kick in until the latter portion of our vacation.
Still counting down to the 2nd when all shall be revealed for better or worse.
And now I'm off towards bed as we didn't arrive home until after 1am this morning and despite a 1.5hr nap that snuck up on me while I shut my eyes for 'just a few minutes' I'm pooped.

Forced Unconcern
That's how I'm feeling. That I'm pretty much forcing myself to assume all is well, and that all will be well until the u/s on May 2nd. It's not like I have much if any control over anything to do with the process. That's not to say I don't do irregular checks on the girls to see if they are still reactive, or notice that I'm seriously belly bloated by the end of the day. And I've already had my first crazy pregnancy dream in which I was trying to nurse one of our cats...WTH!?
I did not end up calling the RE's office. I specifically picked my OB/GYN because she does specialize in high-risk pregnancy, and there are a number of doctors in the group, so we'll just roll with that.
When DH and I talk about the possibilities, it's in terms of the practicalities - what kinds of baby things we'll need to get (not much since I've been pathological about keeping all of LO's things and most of the equipment is on the gender neutral side; obviously a boy would mean a 98% new wardrobe, and the majority of my maternity wear was geared toward warmer weather so I'll need to bulk that up for the fall/early winter), any projects we think might need to be completed around the house, the room we'll switch over from guest to nursery, and so forth.
At this point no matter what happens, DH and I are in agreement that this is it: a decision needs to be made and followed through on in regards to permanent birth control. Whether it's him getting snipped (we have not really discussed) or my tubes tied (I refuse to go back on hormonal birth control and have fears that my metal allergy would be triggered by a metal IUD), we will do something.
Keep sending the good vibes our way, please. Still not sure what happened, but maybe we finally relaxed enough? Hah!

Here I Go Again (edited)
That little pudge under my bellybutton I mentioned at the end of the last post?
It's okay, I'll wait while you go back and refresh your memory.
Done yet?
How about now?
Okay, good...
It may be getting bigger for the next 8 months or so.
We're in shock. Dadblastit, if infertility can't be counted on as birth control, what the heck is it good for?!
One positive test so far*, after AF was supposed to start on April 1 (yes, at first I figured the non-arrival was a sick joke by Mother Nature), OB's office won't do an ultrasound until 8-10 weeks and we're going on a long planned and longer anticipated Caribbean vacation in the next couple of weeks, but will be back before 8 weeks.
So much for the copious alcoholic beverages I was planning to enjoy. And if I remember correctly, it was dead on the start of week 6 with LO when morning sickness hit with a vengeance. Nothing like being on an airplane or at a lovely resort and not being able to enjoy it because everything makes you want to hurl!
And that's assuming that all is going well and there isn't a repeat of last summer's events; nothing like packing for a beach and pool time and having to take up room with an overload of supplies and then if they are needed not feeling comfortable wearing things which expose one's bottom.
Since erasing the knowledge of what could happen isn't exactly possible, I'm working on not getting too excited or worried about it, hoping for the best while anticipating the worst.
But I will be making that OB ultrasound appointment ASAP. And calling the RE's office to get their input on anything I can do until then to ease my worries!
*I will note that the one test so far had no reluctance in quickly coming up with a nice dark line, unlike last summer when they were light but still visible. So that's giving me some shred of hope. I need to get one of the new-fangled ones which give a positive plus a guesstimate of how many weeks.
EDIT: Did the digital test this morning and it gave a 2-3 week past ovulation time frame, so still assuming all is well. And mentally twiddling my thumbs until Monday when I can make some calls.
