Easter Redux

So, how was your Easter?

Ours was cold, thunderstormy (at night), sunny, and windy.

My MIL insists on hiding Easter baskets - and because she remembered that I HATE, LOATHE, and otherwise DESPISE having to hunt for things from a previous Easter, she put my basket in the hardest place she could find: in a cabinet, behind an almost overflowing trash-can. Of course, I found both my husband's and brother-in-law's baskets long before they did and then I had to find mine as well. I told my husband that since I'd found his it was only fair that he find mine. But did he? Nooooo.

No one else seems to remember that the last time we were with them for Easter we had the cats with us, and I was on my way to feed our elderly cat when I was ambushed into trying to hunt for my basket with a bowl of wet food in hand. I was not in the mood then; if they'd just given me a few minutes to finish what I was doing first, I would have been happier to participate. This year I was actually sorta looking forward to the hunt. Never again.

And all of that for a basket containing - a very small container of Jelly Belly jelly beans (my absolute favorite!), a key chain size digital photo frame (I would not use, there are too many things on my key chain already), and a personalized spa wrap in pink (which DH took one look at and declared he would gag if I used). No chocolate. Boo.

Not resentful much, am I?

Despite the basket hunt and egg dye issues (someone forgot to pack the vinegar and there wasn't enough at the beach house to do both the "boring" Star Wars egg dye kit and the "cool" marbleized egg dye kit causing a true pout and temper tantrum by someone who should have known better *ahem* DH *ahem*) and my stomach being upset for our ride home, it really was a nice kickoff to the "summer" season.

At least my parents know how to fill an Easter bag: we each got a bag of peanut M&M's (also my favorite), an Almond Joy bar, and a Peppermint Patty. In addition, DH got some homemade chocolate covered peanuts, and I got a package of Peeps (which are totally going in the microwave!).

  1. Parsing - They blow up really big like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man in Ghostbusters. Except for the whole self-propelled movement thing. And like Ghostbusters, too much time in the microwave explodes them. Some people stage jousts (check YouTube) with toothpick swords, but I'm not into that myself.

I happen to like my peeps more chewy which is quicker to accomplish in a microwave than waiting for them to dehydrate naturally. As a bonus I get to see them inflate and deflate - scary!

  2. -Mrs. Higrens, Wow, there's a whole peep show I've been missing out on! And by peep show, I mean Peeps, not seedy peeps. You know the peeps of which I speak.
