Another request for suggestions....

My birthday is coming up (in a couple months) and one of the items on my list is an MP3 Player.

I need your suggestions for brands, models which you like or hate...then I can employ one of my DH's extensive spreadsheets to compare the options and make a decision of which one(s) to put on my list so I don't end up with a cheap off-brand knockoff that dies before I even get a chance to load any music on it because I didn't give any specifics with my request.

You know you have a family member who does that. Thinks that a cheap piece of crap is just as good as a name brand model, just because it looks the same (almost) and the package looks similar*. And then you have to be all grateful and shit when you really want to shake them and say "How could you not know the difference!?", but you can't because they thought they were doing something wonderful. And then you have to go out and buy what you really wanted to begin with, which you don't want to do because you don't have the money, and damn it you didn't get any birthday cash because they spent the money on the cheap piece of crap. Ahem.

So that's why I need your help. What are the positives, negatives and semi-related comments you have regarding the variety of MP3 players out there?

*On that note why does vanilla wild cherry coke have to look so much like regular coke. Really, is it that hard to make the packaging different enough so that the person running through the store doesn't end up with the wrong, nasty product and still not have any soda to drink?

  1. Edgar bought me a Sony MP3 player a couple of years ago. It also plays the radio for when I don't feel like listening to my music. It's pretty cool.

  2. love the iPod because it's really easy to use, but you can only use it with iTunes, so if all of your music is stored on another program, you'll have to transfer it. I've had a little Samsung player that I actually liked a lot, it played the radio too, which is a definite bonus. Also, if you don't go for the iPod, look on Napster to see what mp3 players they support, because then you can upload anything in their library for a small monthly fee. Definitely worth it.
