Five Questions Meme

Frema at Looking At Frema posted this meme recently and generously opened the field for her loyal readers to request questions from her. This is my first meme, so I'm (pathetically) excited that she was willing to include me!

Frema's Questions to Me:

1. Growing up, which TV family was most like yours? Why?
As an only child, it seemed like all the TV families had multiple kids so I never really identified with the families or child characters. If I had to pick one family, it would have to be Doogie Howser because I never felt like I fit in with my peers (not because I'm a super-genius or anything, I just was different). Most of the kid characters on the other shows were portrayed as popular, which I certainly wasn't. Doogie at least struggled with the differences in how adults and kids interact. Truthfully, I was one of those kids the adults praised, which means that I didn't really act like a kid, or make me popular with the other kids.

2. Which relationship experience changed you the most as a person?

I have to say it is being married to my husband. Before meeting my husband I had never managed to stay with a guy for more than 3 months. I'm still learning how to be active in a relationship vs. being passive (my poor husband) which is changing the way I look at life and my place in it.

3. Which song serves as the your personal theme song? Why?

That's a really good question. For some reason the first song that popped into my head was "Cruel Summer." I like that it combines happy music with depressed lyrics. (but I also reserve the right to change my mind on this)

4. What is your definition of a friend? Using that definition, how many friends do you have?

A friend is someone who doesn't give up on you. Apart from my husband (my best friend), I only have a couple and have not made any since graduating from college. I suck at meeting new people.

5. Is there a topic you've blogged about that you wish you didn't?

I included a fight my husband and I had in a post about an otherwise really good time. I later went back and deleted it because it was not relevant to the rest of the entry, and frankly it wasn't anyonelse's business. The name I use is a bastardization of my last name, so I am trying to keep to the "Do I want my family or husband's family to read this?" rule. That's not to say I won't look back and ask myself why I felt compelled to write about a certain topic.

What you do to join the fun (copied direct from Frema 'cuz I'm lazy like that):

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me." (If I don't have your email address already, either leave it in the comment or email me at [your e-mail])

2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions

  1. Great answers! I never thought about TV families usually having more than one kid. Now I'm trying to think of other families with an only. Urkel was an only child, wasn't he?
